Joshua Tree Casita Airbnb Intimate Backyard Elopement | Joshua Tree, CA // Lindsey + Taylor
Lindsey and Taylor first connected over a conversation about ice cream – how cute is that! They had their first date at the San Diego Zoo, and now they live in San Diego together, so we’re sort of neighbors! After four years of adventures together, Taylor decided to make it official on a trip up to Julian, CA. As soon as they arrived there, Taylor got out of the car and immediately proposed and they spent the day on cloud nine, drinking wine, calling their loved ones, and basking in the excitement! They love going to breweries, eating pizza, hiking, and watching murder mysteries. Can you see why we totally got a long and are friends now?! We’re already excited to grab a beer in San Diego together!
When Lindsey and Taylor reached out to me about eloping in Joshua Tree in the Spring, I was so excited! The whole area around Joshua Tree National Park, Pioneertown, and Yucca Valley have always been some of my favorite desert scenery! I’ve always thought that Joshua Trees look like drawings in a Dr. Seuss book. They decided to have their day at this Airbnb in Joshua Tree called the “Joshua Tree Casita” with the cutest boho décor and minimalist design. Not far from the west entrance of the park, it’s the perfect spot to see some of Joshua Tree’s most beautiful sunsets, relax in the hot tub or on the macramé hammock, surrounded by open desert views, wildlife, and a starry sky. They were going for a non-traditional boho style with desert vibes, with a ceremony in the cactus-filled backyard of the house for their colorful bohemian day surrounded by good food, good friends, and good vibes! They decorated the rustic farm tables in the backyard with brass accents, succulents, cacti, and small geometric vases, dusty blue accents, assorted candles, and they even made their wedding signs themselves. P.S. Lindsey is actually a graphic designer – her company is called Lindsey Brunk Designs! She made all the save-the-date stationary and paper goods herself!
One of the big decisions with adventure elopements is whether you’re going to have guests or witnesses, and how many. Lindsey and Taylor decided to have about 20 of their closest loved ones there for an intimate and special day. They got ready inside the house, taking turns hanging out in the backyard or using the cute bedroom to get ready in. Right when I arrived, they already made sure I had a beer in my hands and was able to be a real part of their day, and I had so much fun just hanging out with them and their loved ones as they prepared for the day ahead! Taylor wore a dark navy blue suit with a striped white and blue shirt, and Lindsey wore a boho lace wedding dress from PreVue with unique white snake skin pointed ankle boots from Lulus, and a brass floral headpiece by Natalie Wynn. Her bouquet was inspired by earthy colors and desert vibes, with burnt orange accents, with dark rust colored and off-white florals by Native Poppy!
They had their First Look in front of the Joshua Tree Casita and all the excitement of the day just built from there! Some of their loved ones were definitely peeking in through the window to see all the emotions too! One of the great things about intimate elopements is that the plans can be super flexible and casual, making everything feel super smooth and stress-free, and it means you can really spend time together and relax with your loved ones instead of following a giant hectic schedule of one activity after another that can feel rushed sometimes. Their relaxed elopement timeline allowed for freedom through the day to actually hang out with their loved ones, enjoy some drinks, and of course their epic cheese board appetizers they were super excited about! Soon it was time for their intimate ceremony, which they held in the backyard of the house, with colorful rugs spread out along the dirt path to create their aisle, assorted wooden benches for their guests, and cacti and desert plants as their ceremony backdrop. They wrote their own vows and had a sweet ceremony filled with laughs and so much love in the air. Lindsey’s sister was their officiant too! I think it’s so meaningful and special when couples have a loved one officiate!
After they were pronounced husband and wife and boogied back up the aisle, we went into the house so they could enjoy a celebratory drink alone together. I always try to make sure my couples get some time to themselves right after their ceremony to just enjoy that newlywed bliss together! Then Lindsey put on her badass off-white fringe jacket and we made our way out onto the dirt road outside the house while we looked for the perfect spot to take some newlywed photos! We hardly escaped the rain that day, and the dark clouds made the sky so eerie and magical. We had a blast just meandering through the desert scenery, hanging out, and celebrating them! Once they felt ready to party, we made our way back to the house and they went in for their first dance to Love Will Keep Us Alive by the Eagles, and you could tell they had so much fun with it. They spent the rest of their night enjoying the company of their loved ones under twinkle lights and candlelight. The perfect end to a perfect day! P.S. They’re going on their honeymoon to Italy and Greece – definitely bucket list spots!
