Austin, Texas is one of my favorite cities in the U.S. and close to my heart. When you think of Austin, Texas, you might think of the “live music capital of the world,” or you might think of really great food, or you might think “keep Austin weird,” or you might think of street art murals and Sixth Street and South Congress. You might think of paddle boarding down Lake Travis or Lady Bird Lake, or jumping in Barton Springs, or having a pint at a local brewery.

But there are also some pretty unique elopement locations in Austin. In fact, some of my favorite Texas elopement locations are around the Austin area. Which is why I specialize in Austin elopement packages for my Texas couples. How to Get Legally Married in Austin

Austin, Texas is part of Travis County, which requires you to get a marriage license. After that, you must wait at least 72 hours to have your legal ceremony, and within 90 days.

You can make an appointment at the county clerk’s office with your identification documents and make it all official!

Some good news is that witnesses are optional, so you just need to have someone who is licensed to perform wedding ceremonies to officiate your ceremony. This is usually an officiant/celebrant, a judge, a religious official, or it could even be a loved one who wants to get ordained online! This person will sign your marriage license to make it legal.

Traveling to Austin for your Elopement or Small Wedding

If you’re not local to Austin, you can easily fly in to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport from most major airports, so that part’s easy! For renting a car in Austin, even if you’re in driving distance, it might be cool to rent a fun car on Turo (which is kind of like AirBnb but for cars) for your elopement adventure, just saying…

If you’ll need lodging, like I mentioned before, there’s some really unique Airbnb options that would be awesome! You can even look into glamping options if that’s your style!

Finding private spaces to rent out could also be a really fun option for an elopement! Although most Airbnbs won’t allow parties, they may allow you to have a small elopement ceremony on the property - plus it’ll be an awesome place to get ready in and to come cozy up for dinner and drinks in the evening!

You can find some really unique, quirky, epic rentals that would be an amazing addition to an elopement day, especially because it’s a private location!
